A collaborative publishing platform dedicated to high quality political cartoons and comic journalism. www.cartoonmovement.com
Who we are
The Cartoon Movement is a new media platform with a focus on editorial cartoons and comics. We describe ourselves as 'a community of international editorial cartoonists and fans of political satire. Together, we're the Internet's #1 publishing platform for high quality political cartoons and comics journalism.'
With a (rapidly growing) network of over 220 professional cartoonists from over 80 countries, we are the first truly global online publishing platform and community that offers perspectives on the world news through cartoons and comics. We think the future of editorial cartooning is online, and with this platform we want to be at the forefront of media developments. In addition to editorial cartoons, the Cartoon Movement also publishes comics journalism, a relatively new form of journalism that uses a graphic story to delve into an issue.
The Cartoon Movement originated in the VJ Movement, a global platform for video journalism founded by Dutch former Middle East correspondent Thomas Loudon and web veteran Arend Jan van den Beld. The Cartoon Movement was set up and is run by Dutch editorial cartoonist Tjeerd Royaards and US cartoonist/comic artist Matt Bors.
What we do
The mission of the Cartoon Movement is to bring different perspectives on international news events to a global audience, and to create a future for editorial cartoons and comics and their creators. We believe that 'there is more than one truth', and that every voice has a right to be heard. We show these perspectives by publishing a new cartoon daily. In addition, we publish comics journalism by different artists and on different topics each month, varying in length from 3 to 20 pages.
A unique feature of Cartoon Movement is our online newsroom. The newsroom is the heart of our community; it is where the cartoonists pitch their cartoons and cartoon ideas, and where our audience decides which cartoons they would like to see published. It is also a place where ideas and cartoons are discussed, where cartoonists and users alike give feedback on the work that is pitched.
